My parents just did some sort of ritual can anyone tell me what it was about?

There were 7 red peppers and mustard oil and then my parents moved something in a circle motion 7 times over my head and then light it on fire. Any ideas... I kee asking and they say stop asking questions... is this some hindu ritual?
