I have 1 6 year old red eared slider i have him in a 20 gallon tank i know its small but i take him outside?

can i keep him in the same situation for a while im only 11 and dont have any cash to buy a tank my dad is obssessed he will buy anything but a larger tank because i dont have room he has every thing he needs
